National college football signing day - the day that college coaches around the country look forward to every single year. Signed national letters of intent will be faxed to their respective offices early in the morning and into the afternoon.
It is no doubt one of the biggest days for coaches, fans, recruits and family members of the recruits. It also a big day for us in the media. And this year, we will let readers follow along during the day as those faxes arrive at the Northern State football coaches offices.
I will be conducting a signing day live chat from the NSU today. The live chat will begin at 7 a.m. and will last a couple of hours. I will have updates during the two-hour process and will pass along info about the future Wolves.
Readers also can join in on the conversation online at the American News Web site by asking questions about the players and you can share your thoughts as well about the players. At the end, I will also have a five-to-10 minute question and answer session with NSU coach Tom Dosch. The questions will come from you, the readers.
I will also be tweeting updates throughout the day about the recruits so follow along @RyanDeal_AAN.
As of now, the Wolves have at least 25 known verbal commitments for their 2013 signing class. Expect that number to be in the 30s by the end of today. We have been getting the verbal commitments in the paper when they have been called in by the high school coaches. College coaches cannot comment publicly about verbal commitments until their national letters of intent are signed.
When the time comes that coach Dosch can comment publicly about this class, he will have nothing but great things to say about them, I'm sure. The Wolves had a solid recruiting class last season and already have the makings of another solid class this season.
Of the 25 commitments that I know of, 12 are from South Dakota. The Wolves have already received verbals from local products: Schyler Kumpf, Aberdeen Central; Josh Hilgemann, Aberdeen Central; Lane Myer, Ipswich; Robbie Aesoph, Faulkton; Tate Nafziger, Potter County and Brian Sumption, Leola-Frederick. Northern also recently received a verbal from another St. Thomas More quarterback in Jake Sullivan as well.
Current starting QB Jared Jacobson also played for the powerhouse Cavalier football program from the Black Hills.
The Wolves also have received verbals from players in North Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona. Northern State has found some solid players in recent years from Arizona.
I wonder what the connection is with the coaching staff and Arizona? Has anybody else noticed this?
Maybe you can ask coach Dosch, because today is the day you can ask him.
