Central's JV defeated Warner-Northwestern 55-21, Britton-Hecla 54-19 and Roncalli 47-26. Britton-Hecla edged Roncalli 30-27 and Warner-Northwestern stopped Roncalli 39-18.
While Roncalli dropped all three of its duals, the Cavaliers won nine of the 14 matches that they wrestled in.
"It's kind of been the theme for the last couple of years," said Roncalli coach Justin Briese. 'We go out and control what we can control. We're going to win the matches that we wrestle and the ones that we don't wrestle, we can't do anything about that."
Zach Sumner and Matt Schlosser each won three contested matches on the night for Roncalli.
Sumner, who was honored as Roncalli's lone senior, won a pair of hard-fought decisions and also recorded a pin.
"It feels pretty good getting those three wins," Sumner said. "I had to come out and wrestle hard."
Sumner said it was taxing wrestling three matches in a short period of time.
"I think it takes a huge toll," he said. "You go six minutes every match and you're working hard the whole time."
Schlosser was involved in the most exciting match of the evening. He scored a takedown with 12 seconds remaining to edge Brian Peterson of Warner-Northwestern 6-5.
"He was on the bottom and I cut him," Schlosser said of the move that put Peterson ahead by one. "There was about 45 seconds left. I knew I had to get a takedown to win."
Schlosser produced that takedown without much time to spare to capture the victory.
He also picked up a pair of pins in his other two matches.
Meanwhile, Central's JV squad had a chance to take the spotlight and made the most of it.
"We've been working hard all year right alongside the varsity," said Central JV coach Donnie Bowden. "The varsity has been improving and we've been improving right with them."
The Golden Eagles had numerous wrestlers who went unbeaten on the night.
"Everyone was impressive," Bowden said, "from our seniors all the way down to our seventh-graders."
Roncalli's regular season is not quite finished. The Cavaliers have added another tournament this weekend. The team's top four wrestlers will compete in a tournament at Wall on Saturday. The tourney, which is actually hosted by the Philip-Wall cooperative, was postponed from earlier this season.
"We want to go out there and get a few more matches in," Briese said.
The Cavaliers will go out there with some confidence, despite losing their final three duals of the season.
"We have a really good team," Sumner said. "Our 152 pounders and up never lost a match (tonight). We have a good team. It's just that our numbers our low. We wrestled good, I thought."
