Huron put together a four-goal third period en route to a 6-1 high school girls' hockey victory over the Aberdeen Cougars on Friday.
The Cougars trailed just 2-1 entering the third, but "ran out of gas," said Aberdeen coach Rob Weinmeister, adding the Cougars were also missing some regular starters.
"We were missing a couple of our older girls, and that kind of caught up with us," Weinmeister said. "We had to fill in some spots and had some unfamiliar girls playing together."
Aberdeen's lone goal came in the first period, a game-tying goal from Callie Jorgenson. The hosts took the lead for good in the second period as Paige Small found the net with an assist from Hope Goethal. The All-Stars had 37-20 advantage in shots with Aberdeen goalie Hailey Huff making 19 saves.
"We were challenging them with shots, and making them take shots from bad angles," Weinmeister said. "We didn't get as many shots as I would have liked."
Small assisted on two of the third-period goals, including Samantha Kirton's second goal of the game, which came on a power play.
The Cougars take on the All-Stars again today in Huron at 3 p.m.
