NAHL HOCKEY: Blizzard bashes Wings

BROOKINGS -- A pair of third-period goals lifted Brookings to a 2-0 North American Hockey League victory over the Aberdeen Wings Friday.

 The contest was scoreless through two periods, with the hosts launching 27 shots at Aberdeen, and the Wings countering with 18. Third-period shots were 13-12 in Brookings' favor.

 Eric Brenk tallied Brookings' first goal with 15:35 left in the game, and that was all Blizzard goalie Drew Weigman would need. Weigman entered the game ranked 10th in the NAHL in goals against average at 2.40 per game and stopped all 30 shots he faced Friday. Brookings received an insurance goal from Nikta Sokolov with 6:10 left in the game.

 Marcus Zelzer made 38 saves for the Cougars. Aberdeen (8-16-1) returns to the ice today, hosting the Minot Minotauros at the Odde Ice Center at 7:15 p.m.
