IPSWICH - Aberdeen Roncalli overcame a sluggish start and cruised to a 47-20 non-conference victory over Ipswich Tuesday.

The Cavaliers struggled early with some "sloppy" play, said Roncalli coach Derek Larson, but were able to turn things around in the second half.

"We kind of had a sloppy first half and had too many turnovers," Larson said. "The majority were in the first half."

Larson said the Cavaliers played well defensively all night, but shooting seemed to be an issue throughout the first half. Roncalli built an 11- point lead at the break, making nine of 28 field goal attempts.

"We didn't play the way we normally do," said Larson of the opening half. "We couldn't make any shots. In the second half, the shots fell early for us and we got a lot of stuff in transition."

Roncalli was able to take advantage of Ipswich miscues as well, as the Tigers committed 30 turnovers. Larson pointed to Taylor and Tage Hanson's play on defense as making a difference for Roncalli.

"Both of those Hanson girls are just kind of pesky with everyone," Larson said. "Having those two play their two guard just wore them down and we took advantage of their being tired."

Larson was happy to see the defense step and contribute when the offense is having an off-night.

"That's what we've been relying on all year," Larson said. "When the shots aren't falling, we need our defense to rise to the occasion."

Mollee Karst led the Roncalli scoring with 14 points and Taylor Hanson contributed 11. Karst also grabbed seven rebounds. Shekota Myer led the Ipswich effort with nine points.

Aberdeen Roncalli (14-3) will now play Clark-Willow Lake (16-3) for the Northeast Conference title at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Roncalli gym. Both teams are 8-0 in the NEC.

Ipswich will play Potter County in Hoven Thursday.
