The NSU women's and men's basketball teams are home this weekend for a huge Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader. The Wolves play Wayne State College tonight at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. NSU will then play Augustana College on Saturday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. All four games are at Wachs Arena. Saturday is also Parents Night and the annual I Hate Winter Night.
The NSU women sport a 14-6 overall record and is 10-6 in NSIC play. The Wolves and St. Cloud State are tied atop the NSIC North Division with identical records. Alison Kusler and Rachel Krogman continue to lead the Wolves this season. Kusler is averaging a team-leading 13.8 points per game. Krogman leads the Wolves in rebounding with 8.9 boards per game and she contributes 12 points a game. Sarah Hintz and Megan Mutchler both score around eight points per game.
Wayne State women are 13-7 overall and 9-7 in league play. The Wildcats were one of the top teams in Division II last season and won their second straight NSIC regular season title a year ago. Forward Jordan Spencer leads the Wildcats in scoring at 15.5 points per game. Guard Ashton Yossi scores 14.3 points per game. Forward Ellen Hansen averages a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game and contributes 10 points per game.
The Augustana College women are currently ranked 18th in the most recent USA Today Sports Coaches' Poll. The Vikings are 16-4 overall and 12-4 in NSIC play. Augustana is tied for second with Minnesota State, Mankato in the NSIC South standings with three weeks left to play. The Vikings and Mavericks trail Concordia-St. Paul by one game. Forward Alex Feeney powers the Vikings with 14.5 ppg game and 7.9 rpg. Other starters Shaunteva Ashley (11.7 ppg), Lydia Nelson (10.5 ppg) and Faith Tinklenberg (10.4 ppg) also average over 10 points a game.
The NSU men are tied with St. Cloud State atop the North Division standings. The Wolves have a 17-6 overall record and 12-4 in league play. St. Cloud is 16-4 overall and 12-4 in the conference. Collin Pryor leads the Wolves in scoring (16.2) and rebounding (8.0). Dustin Tetzlaff scores 11.2 ppg and grabs 6.4 boards per game. Michael Emge scores 9.5 ppg and has made a team-leading 48 three-pointers this season.
The Wayne State men are 13-9 overall and 7-9 in conference action. Derrell Williams and Amry Shelby are the top scoring threats for Wayne State. Shelby scores 13.2 ppg and Williams averages 12 ppg. Williams is the leading rebounder for Wayne State and has pulled in 137 on the season.
Augustana College men are 16-4 overall and 12-4 in league play. High scoring guard Cameron McCaffery leads the conference in scoring with 20.3 ppg. He had a 40-point game earlier in the season. Daniel Jansen averages 10.8 ppg for the Vikings. Jansen leads the team in rebounding with 5.2 rpg.
