ST. CLOUD, Minn. - After a loss in the opening match, St. Cloud State made sure the rest of the night went its way in a 38-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling dual victory over Northern State.

The Huskies came into the match on a lengthy dual win streak and are currently ranked number one in Division II. St. Cloud improved to 19-0 overall and is 6-0 in NSIC matches.

"They are ranked for a reason," said NSU coach Pat Timm. "They have won 45 duals in a row. The one thing I can say positive is we didn't back down. We fought and wrestled hard."

The Wolves' lone win came at 125 pounds where Anthony Bruno defeated Daniel Polanco 6-5.

"He wrestled a real solid match," Timm said of Bruno. "He's coming on at the right time, and doing the things he needs to do."

The Huskies have two nationally top-rated wrestlers in the lineup. Andy Pokorny at 133 pounds won his match by pin over Tyler Frost, and Shamus O'Grady defeated Chad Gibson 10-6 in the 184-pound match.

"Chad wrestled the number one kid in the country. We were in the match, it was pretty tight," Timm said. "Chad wrestled well, and has fought through some injuries."

Timm said the experience of wrestling the best will help the Wolves improve.

"In a couple of weeks, we're going to be right where we want to be," Timm said. "We just have to be in a little better shape."

An anticipated clash at heavyweight between Northern's Matt Meuleners and SCSU's Jake Kahnke didn't happen, as the Huskies used a different wrestler at that weight. Meuleners is the top-ranked heavyweight in Division II and Kahnke is ranked second. Northern's Dustin Caspers lost a 5-2 decision to Caleb White in that match.

"We were a little disappointed (that Kahnke didn't wrestle), so we decided to put Caspers in tonight," Timm said.

The Wolves take on the University of Mary Wednesday at Wachs Arena, starting at 7 p.m.

"They are a lot like us, struggling a little," Timm said. "I feel we can win. We have to do a lot of things right."
