WAUBAY - Waubay placed five players in double figures in a 78-19 non-conference victory over Aberdeen Christian Tuesday.

The Dragons broke out to a 22-6 lead after one quarter and were comfortably ahead the entire night. Aberdeen assistant coach Hannah Wickard noted that rebounding played a role in the game, as Waubay collected 50 rebounds, including 31 on the offensive end.

"They beat us on the boards, especially offensive," Wickard said.

The hosts were led in scoring by Nicole Welch with 18 points, followed by Monica Larson with 17. Keely Daniel and Kayla Breske added a dozen points each and Jenna Larson contributed 10 points. Welch and Amber Anderson pulled down 10 rebounds each.

Ellie Becker had six points and seven rebounds to pace Christian. Wickard said the Knights have been receiving better play from the posts.

"Our post play was the best it's been yet," Wickard said. "Madison (Inches) had a lot of good shots on the inside, and Ellie did too."

Wickard said the Knights didn't leave Waubay without picking up some lessons throughout the evening.

"Just handling guard pressure, they were up in our face," Wickard said. "Almost a little half-court trap. I think we learned how to handle that."

Waubay continues its season Monday with a visit to Langford. Aberdeen Christian will host Eureka-Bowdle Friday in a girls'/boys' doubleheader at the Civic Arena, with the varsity girls' game starting at 6:30 p.m.
