OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Presentation's men's basketball team came alive in the second half and earned its second victory in as many days, earning a 79-69 victory over Crossroads College on Saturday at the William Penn Classic.
The Saints, who led by a single point at halftime, had to overcome a slow start, said coach Jeremy Reigle.
"I thought we came out a lot more intense in the second half," he said. "We were sluggish in the first half, and it took us a while to get going. We got after them in the second half."
Presentation relied on a number of factors in the win, including defense, depth and another solid effort from Darrell Farr. The 6-4 senior forward followed up his double-double from Friday's win with a 24-point, 13-rebound performance, adding six assists and four steals to his totals as well.
Reigle noted that the Saints received a good effort from Anthony Hendricks as well, with 16 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. As a team, the Saints handed out 22 assists and collected 12 steals on the day.
The Saints had advantages in many offensive categories, including second-chance points (17-7) and bench points, where PC outscored Crossroads 23-3.
"They didn't have very much depth, so we were able to go deep and wear them down," Reigle said.
Andy Carson and Eugene Gipson had 21 points each for Crossroads, which fell to 2-6 with the loss. The Saints received points from nine different players in the victory, improving to 2-1 on the season. The Saints play their first home game Wednesday, hosting Minnesota-Morris at the Strode Center in a women's/men's doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. Reigle said that PC is familiar with the Cougars from past meetings.
"They are going to be solid. It is kind of a rivalry game for us. We have played close games home and away," he said. "We are very familiar with a lot of their team."
