It took a little extra time, but the wait turned out to be worth it for Northern State's soccer team on Sunday.

The Wolves opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a 1-0 overtime victory at Minnesota State, Moorhead. NSU improved to 4-0 in the regular season with the victory. Kay Hernandez scored the goal with an assist from Anna Bondy in the 104th minute. Total shots were 32-9 in Northern's favor and shots on goal were 16-3.

"I think anytime you win a road game in the NSIC, you have to be happy," said NSU coach Steve Kehm. "In the future, we need to be more efficient. We had several opportunities to put the game away, and that allowed them to be dangerous at times. We have to get after it in training to work on finishing."

Kehm credited the Moorhead goalie with making some critical saves to keep her team in the game.

"To their credit, their goalie was great today," Kehm said. "She made some great saves from close range."

Northern continues its season next weekend, facing two more NSIC foes on the road. Saturday, the Wolves are at Wayne (Neb.) State and Sunday head to Sioux Falls to play Augustana. Both matches are at 1 p.m.
