Kent Arment picked a good time to win his first feature of the season at his home track.
The Aberdeen auto racer won the 40-lap Modified feature on Friday at the Brown County Speedway. It was Arment's first time winning a feature this season at the dirt track.
"We've been fast every week. We have had a couple other guys that have stepped up," Arment said about the Modified division this season.
The 40-lap Modified feature was the last race of the night as the Advantage RV Mod Tour made its stop in Aberdeen. It was Arment's first time this season competing in the Mod tour. He earned $1,500 for winning the feature, beating out 20 other drivers. There were 43 total Modified entries on Friday night.
"Looking at the track, it felt good tonight," Arment said Friday. "Starting up front is always nice. There was some heavy hitters in there. There is no doubt."
Arment was the pole sitter.
"It is nice to start up front and let them guys chase you," Arment said.
Dave Mass of Isanti, Minn., was neck and neck with Arment a few times coming down the front stretch, but other than that, Arment led from start-to-finish during the nine-minute race.
"We were married to the bottom tonight," Arment said. "The motor wasn't running the best, so I just figured, 'Well this looks like the best for me,' and that is where I stayed."
Aberdeen's Curt Gelling picked up another Late Model feature win at the BCS. John Winge of Sioux Falls led for the first 15 laps of the 25-lap feature. Winge got into lap traffic and Gelling took the lead on the 16th lap and never relinquished the lead.
"My car wasn't real good, so I had to move down the racetrack a little bit so I wouldn't mess up there," Gelling said. "It's the only way I could get around there, but it is kind of rough out there. Rough and slick isn't a good combination, but that is what it is."
Once Gelling took the lead, he was also racing in lap traffic and had to fend off David McDonald of Huron down the stretch.
"It makes it a little fun when you get to racing with that," Gelling said about the lap traffic.
Tyler Lambert of Aberdeen picked up another Street Stock feature at the local oval. He began the feature outside of row four and, after a restart, he took the lead during the sixth lap of the 15-lap feature.
"I saw everybody on the bottom and the top open," Lambert said. "That is what I saw. That is where they have kind of been racing the last two races, so I figured I would try it."
There were two more caution flags late in the race, but Lambert was able to hang on for the win. Lambert had to fend off Scott Witkowski of Stirum, N.D., at the end for the win.
"They were chipping away at the bottom and I was at the top and slowly started reeling them in and that caution came out. You could see in the helmet - the smile was coming out of it," Lambert joked.
Houghton's Levi Dinger won his third Super Stock feature at the BCS this season. Dinger battled back-and-forth with Carson Gramm of Ipswich during the middle stages of the race.
"He got into the lead there and he had the preferred line," Dinger said. "He moved up top to try out the top and that opened up the bottom for me. I probably wouldn't have been able to get by him if he didn't do that, but he left her open there."
Gramm took the lead during the ninth and 10th laps of the 18-lap feature. Dinger then grabbed the lead during the 11th lap and led for the rest of the race.
"There were cars above me all race," Dinger said, "so I didn't have much of an option. It was handling good on the bottom. Carson was moving up the whole race. I just stayed behind him until he picked off a lane. Then he left the bottom open."
Aberdeen's Luis Chavez claimed the Pure Stock feature on Friday night. He took the lead during the third lap of the 12 lap feature. Chavez led for the rest of the race, but Cody Ketterling of Aberdeen almost passed him during the second-to-last lap. However, he could not get by him on the last lap and Chavez hung on for the win.
The races will resume next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Brown County Speedway.
