REDFIELD -- Redfield Dairy Queen took both ends of an amateur baseball doubleheader Friday, defeating the Redfield Pheasants by scores of 5-1 and 8-4.
Dairy Queen jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring twice in the second inning and adding three more runs in the third. Luke Holt pitched a complete game for Dairy Queen, striking out eight and improving his record to 3-3 on the season. Offensively, Brent Osborne totaled three hits, while Edgar Tovar and Kelly Coates added two each. Drew Dickhaut provided a pair of hits for the Pheasants.
The Pheasants enjoyed two short leads in the second game before Dairy Queen took control during the middle innings. Five players had two hits each to lead a 13-hit attack for the Pheasants. Dairy Queen pitcher Keith Gall threw five innings to earn the win, taking his season record to 5-0. Tovar and Chris Studer collected three hits each, while Joel Osborne contributed two. Tovar and Osborne each drove in a pair of runs.
Dairy Queen (15-5) will host Watertown for a single game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
