Redfield Dairy Queen won a pair of amateur baseball games in very different ways over the weekend.
Dairy Queen edged past host Wessington Springs 10-8 in a 12-inning marathon on Saturday, and belted Mobridge 13-0 in a five-inning contest at Northville on Sunday.
Redfield trailed 5-4 to Wessington Springs before Justin Downes clubbed a solo home run to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. The hosts failed to score in the bottom of the frame, forcing extra innings. Each team plated three runs in the tenth, and Redfield scored the deciding runs in the 12th as Brent Osborn drove in a run with a double and later scored on a throwing error.
Edgar Tovar, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief, led a 19-hit attack for Dairy Queen with four hits. Keith Gall and Sam Heintzman added three hits each. Arin Boschee and Kody Kopfmann had two hits each for the hosts.
An eight-run fourth inning helped put an early end to the game with Mobridge Sunday. Luke Holt held Mobridge to one hit and struck out seven batters, while Tovar collected three hits and drove in three runs. Brent Osborn and Gall added two hits apiece. Redfield improved to 12-5 on the season and will be at Britton on Thursday for a single game at 7 p.m.
