Thoughts about tournament namesake Vern Jark: "I've just heard how great of guy he was. I've talked to (his son) Brian a few times. If Brian is anything like him, you can tell he was really a great guy."
Most memorable athletic accomplishment: Beating Sioux Falls West in the 15-16 state tournament after Paulson pitched more than six strong innings. Aberdeen finished second in the state that season. West was 32-8 at the time and Aberdeen was 25-20.
Best sports advice ever received: "I'd say just go out there and have fun. It's just a game. The worst thing than can happen is you get out and the sun rises the next day."
2013 Smittys/Vern Jark Wood Bat Tournament This annual American Legion baseball tourney featuring seven-inning games is named after one of the Aberdeen Smittys best all-time players, MLB draftee Vern Jark, a 13th-round selection by the Chicago Cubs in 1976.
