WAYNE, Neb. - The seventh-ranked Minnesota State football team scored on its first three possessions of the first half - and its final two of the half - and then held on for a 42-35 victory over Wayne State College in the annual Egg Bowl played on the campus of Wayne State College. The game was witnessed by 1,651 fans.
Maverick quarterback Jon Wolf was named the Minnesota State Most Valuable Player of the Egg Bowl after finishing the game with by completing 10-of-18 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed ten times for 54 yards and a score. The win pushed Mankato's record to 9-0 on the season a mark which ties the 2010 squad for the best start in program history.
Andy Pfeiffer led Mankato on the ground with 16 carries for 75 yards while Thielen caught seven passes for 99. Senior defensive back Robert Gunderson added a team-high eight tackles to go with two interceptions.
As a team, MSU finished with 366 yards of total offense while Wayne State had 455.

CROOKSTON, Minn. - Another week. Another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division opponent. Another convincing football victory.
Since being dealt a 51-49 buzzer-beater loss by St. Cloud State one month ago, the University of Minnesota Duluth has been on a tear, reeling off four straight one-sided wins, the latest of which was a 38-14 triumph at the expense of the University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Chase Vogler equaled a career-high with three rushing touchdowns and threw for another score for the host Bulldogs, who took a 38-0 lead into halftime at a soggy Ed Widseth Field en route to improving to 8-1 on the season. Vogler, now 44-5 as a collegiate starter, completed 10 of 15 passes for 114 yards, but was picked off once. He opened the scoring with 2:30 to go in the first quarter when he hooked up on a six-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Jeremy Reierson.
No. 8 UMD chewed up 283 yards on the ground while holding the Golden Eagles to just 56 yards on 27 carries. Running back Jerron Johnson came off the bench to rush 11 times for a team-leading 95 yards while sophomore Austin Sikorski added 75 yards on 11 attempts.
Sioux Falls 54
Upper Iowa 41
SIOUX FALLS - The University of Sioux Falls posted a season-high 54 points Saturday to edge Upper Iowa 54-41 in an old-fashion shootout at Bob Young Field.
After going up by as many as 37 points in the second quarter, Upper Iowa score 28 unanswered to make for an interesting fourth quarter. A combination of clutch offense and special teams play lifted the Cougars to their eighth win of the season.
The Cougars had a solid day on the ground, as Kristian Porter racked up 108 rushing yards and two TDs. His performance was just the second 100-yard day for a USF player this season. He also surpassed the 2,000 yard career rushing mark today. Taylor Perkins charted his sixth game with three or more passing touchdowns this season. He finished 15-of-25 for 230 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 50 yards on the ground.
Upper Iowa QB Cole Jaeschke went 43 for 78 for 606 yards. He threw for five touchdowns and also ran for 25 yards and a touchdown. Jaeschke is now second all-time in passing yards in a career with 5,149 and sits in third place in passing touchdowns in a season (24) and in a career (37).
Winona State 47
Southwest Minnesota State 20
WINONA, Minn. - Winona State, ranked No. 7 in this week's NCAA region rankings, exploded for 16 third quarter points to open up a close game and went on to earn a 47-20 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.
Winona held a 14-7 halftime lead before the big third quarter to defeat Southwest for the fourth straight time and 17th time in the last 19 meetings. The Warriors finished the game racking up 566 yards of offense, while limiting SMSU, which entered the game ranking fifth in the NSIC in total offense, to a season-low 245 yards offense, including just 80 rushing yards. Southwest's previous low for total offense this season was 385 in a loss versus the University of Mary.
Winona's Rayon Simmons, the NSIC's all-time leading rusher, finished the game with 119 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries, while John Teigland completed 16 of 23 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Southwest's Tyler Peschong completed 13 of 21 passes for 118 yards, while also rushing for a touchdown, before leaving the game early in the fourth quarter with an injury.
Augustana College 35
Concordia-St. Paul 27
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Darren Niklason sparked Augustana's offense with a career-high three receiving touchdowns and 125 yards leading the Vikings to a 35-27 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division play on Saturday.
Niklason hauled in a career-high 10 passes leading all receivers in the game. Augustana quarterback Josh Hanson finished 28 of 38 passing with four touchdowns. Hanson now has a career-high 27 touchdown passes and has thrown four or more passes in a game four times this season.
Augustana finished the game with 443 yards of total offense, marking the eighth game that the Vikings have gained 400-plus yards of total offense. The Vikings rushed for 154 yards, led by Dajon Newell, who finished the game with 108 yards and a touchdown. Newell matched his career-high with his seventh touchdown of the season.
Concordia-St. Paul finished the game with 373 yards of total offense, including 266 through the air. Quarterback James Peterson finished the game 16 of 33 passing for three touchdowns.

Minnesota State-Moorhead 10
MOORHEAD, Minn. - Minot State University's defense set the tone early on.
And, with the offense coming alive, the Beavers officially have a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference winning streak. Minot State held Minnesota State-Moorhead to 274 total yards and turned the Dragons over four times in a 31-10 win in NSIC football on Saturday.
Randel Barber finished with 93 yards rushing - a career high - on just 15 carries and, coupled with senior Blake Eggl's 21 carries for 89 yards, the Beavers rushed for 204 yards. Cunha was again efficient as he was 13 for 18 for 149 yards. Borel caught four passes for 59 yards to pace the receivers.
Brandon Schell was the leading rusher for Moorhead, gaining 49 yards and the one touchdown.
Bemidji State 37
St. Cloud State 20
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Quarterback Lance Rongstad totaled 341 yards of offense and was responsible for four touchdowns to led Bemidji State to a 37-20 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory at St. Cloud State University Saturday.
The win marks the first for the Beavers at St. Cloud State since 1965. Rongstad recorded 226 yards and a touchdown through the air and posted his fourth-career 100-yard rushing game with 115 yards and a career-high three touchdowns on the ground. With the three rushing scores he moved his career total to 20 to jump two spots to seventh all-time at Bemidji State in rushing touchdowns and is now first all-time among quarterbacks.

Youngstown State 28
BROOKINGS - Austin Sumner threw for five touchdowns, Zach Zenner ran for another and South Dakota State lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter Saturday with a 41-28 victory over Youngstown State.
Sumner completed 19 of 28 passes for 351 yards and five touchdowns, three of which came in the 28-point second quarter for the Jackrabbits. Zenner carried the ball 17 times for 87 yards and a second quarter touchdown.
South Dakota State (6-2, 4-1 Missouri Valley) led 41-7 after Sumner found Aaron Rollin for a 49-yard touchdown strike only 1:37 into the third quarter. It was the fifth different receiver found by Sumner for a touchdown. Rollin had three catches for 108 yards and the score.
Youngstown State (4-4, 1-4) put up a fight, scoring 21 unanswered points to end the game. Will Shaw caught 10 balls for 120 yards and a touchdown in the loss for the Penguins.

FARGO, N.D. - John Crockett's 5-yard touchdown run with 5:23 to play gave North Dakota State a 23-17 win over Southern Illinois Saturday.
The Bison (7-1, 4-1 Missouri Valley), who suffered their only loss of the season in their last home game two weeks ago against Indiana State, trailed 17-10 entering the fourth quarter. Derrick Lang's 1-yard run with 12:38 remaining tied it and North Dakota State used a 11-play, 52-yard drive to score the winning TD.
Southern Illinois (5-4, 4-2) scored on Kory Faulkner's 32-yard pass to LaSteven McKinney and on Brand Williams' 55-yard fumble return. The Salukis only managed 11 rushing yards to North Dakota State's 186.
Brock Jensen ran for a score and completed 15 of 25 passes for 200 yards for the Bison. Faulkner was 17 of 26 for 166 yards for SIU.
Indiana State 45

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Shakir Bell rushed for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns and caught a 25-yard scoring pass, helping Indiana State roll to a 45-14 victory over South Dakota on Saturday.
Indiana State (7-2, 5-1 Missouri Valley) also had two interception returns for TDs - a 25-yarder by Johnny Towalid and a 52-yarder by Donovan Lane.
Mike Perish threw a pair of scoring passes for Indiana State and Kevin Earl threw for 101 yards and a TD for South Dakota (1-7, 0-5).
Lucas Hileman was a significant factor for Indiana State. Three of his four punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, limiting South Dakota's field position.
Montana State 55

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Cody Kirk ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns and Montana State amassed a school-record 695 yards of total offense en route to a 55-10 win over North Dakota on Saturday.
The Bobcats (7-1, 4-1 Big Sky) held North Dakota quarterback Braden Hanson to 165 yards passing a week after he threw for 660 yards against Montana.
Montana State scored touchdowns on four of its first six possessions to take a 28-7 halftime lead. Denarius McGhee was 16 of 19 for 185 yards and a touchdown in the first half and finished the game 24 of 32 for 259 yards and three touchdowns. McGhee has now thrown a touchdown pass in 33 straight games.
North Dakota (4-5, 2-4) was led by Kenny Golladay, who had four receptions for 83 yards, including a 60-yarder to set up the Fighting Sioux's lone touchdown.
