Spencer Lux fired a round 78 to earn medalist honors and lead Webster's boys to the team title at the Region 1B golf tournament Monday at Cattail Crossing.
The Bearcats, with a team score of 255 were joined by Great Plains Lutheran, which also qualified its entire team for the state meet with a score of 263. Along with the top two teams, the top 22 individuals also qualified for state.
On the girls' side, Deuel and Hamlin advanced their teams, as Deuel put together a score of 279 with Hamlin at 310. Kali Trautman of Deuel had a round of 79 to earn medalist honors. The top 15 individual scores qualified for the state meet.
Matt Rohrbach of Aberdeen Christian placed third and qualified for his fourth state meet. As a team, the Knights finished with a score of 287, seven shots behind Clark-Willow Lake.
"I think Matt was fairly happy (with his round)" said Christian coach Gary Aderhold. "The greens were very dry and fast and combined with the wind, it made chipping and putting difficult. To shoot a score around 80 was a good score for anyone today."
The State B boys' tourney is next Monday and Tuesday at the Brookings Country Club. Aderhold said Rohrbach has never played that course, but will get a practice round in Sunday.
The rest of the Knights did not fare as well, said Aderhold.
"They were kind of disappointed. They had the state meet as something they were all aiming for, but came up short," Aderhold said. "Overall for the season, I was happy with the way they improved throughout the season. It was just a tough day today."
The State B girls' meet will be at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings.
