BROOKINGS -- The Aberdeen Central boys' tennis team played 1 matches before weather canceled the rest of the Brookings Quadrangular on Saturday.
The Central boys beat Brookings 8-1 and led Yankton 2-1 after doubles play was concluded. The remaining matches were weathered out.
In the Brookings win, the Golden Eagles lost at number-one singles, but swept the remainder of the matches. Both Adam Zimmerman at third-flight singles and Dillon Prisssel at fourth-flight singles recorded 10-0 shutout wins. Jesse Margolies coasted to a 10-2 win at number-six singles.
Central took care of all three doubles matches by identical 10-6 scores.
That score continued into the Yankton doubles as Zimmerman and Alex Grandbois at second-flight doubles and Prissel and Margolies at third-flight doubles won by the same 10-6 margin.
Despite not ideal weather conditions the past week, the Aberdeen Central squad picked up some needed court time.
"Last week, we started out in Milbank and played well," said Central coach Trent Kurtz. "We played (Rapid City) Stevens and Pierre and played well and then we played really well at home (wins over St. Thomas More and Aberdeen Roncalli). We played well today (Saturday). I was worried about us playing two matches on Friday and playing again in the early morning (Saturday) when it was cold and wet and windy."
The Golden Eagles had not played either Yankton or Brookings yet this season.
"We needed court time and it (the schedule) set up well," said Kurtz. "We had some matches early in the week and had a couple of days off to work on what we saw in the matches and we used it the last couple of days in matches. It looks like the same thing next week."
Aberdeen Central returns to the courts on Monday at the Sioux Falls Triangular with matches against Sioux Falls Lincoln and Washington.
