SIOUX FALLS -- Northern State's Lindsey Fluharty picked up a first- and second-place finish during the final day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Saturday.
Fluharty finished first in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet and 6-1/4-inches. She placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of :13.05 seconds.
"She was really happy with how she did today," Northern State coach Kevin Bjerke said. "You could tell that it got her in a good mood leading into conference. She was pretty excited about getting the win and getting a really good mark at the same time."
NSU's Leandra Schlecht had a pair of top-eight finishes as well on Saturday. She finished fifth in the long jump (16-4-1/4) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.58). It was less than one week after Schlecht competed at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference multi-events in Aberdeen.
"The fact that she got a mark period was really good leading into next week," Bjerke said. "She did well."
Yvonne Freese finished second in the discus throw, while Mariah Nelson placed fifth in the event.
Tyler Robel, Fergus Gavin, Lucas Osowski and Brady Harr finished sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth place, respectively, in the men's shot put. Robel and Gavin improved on their season-best marks, said Bjerke. Osowski improved on his season-best by four feet.
Andy Johnson and Shawn Schnabel placed second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash.
Northern State will compete at the NSIC outdoor championships on Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls.
