Northern State's Monte Meyerink finished seventh in his first career decathlon and Leandra Schlecht was eighth in the heptathlon at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference multi-events, which concluded on Monday at Swisher Field.

Meyerink used a first place finish in the event-ending 1,500-meter run to solidify seventh place. He racked up 5,572 points over the course of the two days, finishing 109 points ahead of the eighth place finisher and 46 points back of sixth.

"Extremely happy that he was able to score points," Northern State multi-events coach Lynne Nacke said. "Our goal is to make sure that we scored points in all events and hopefully squeak out some team points and we were able to accomplish it. That was really nice."

Teammate Dillon Dahl finished tenth overall, also in his first career attempt at the ten-discipline event. Dahl tallied 5,079 total points.

"I'm happy for those two freshmen, to see them get their first multi in," Nacke said. "I think they both had a positive experience and hopefully they will continue to get better each time they do one."

On the women's side, Schlecht just missed the 4,000-point mark. The sophomore finished eighth with 3,960 points.

"She had a good day today," Nacke said. "It was nice to see her score points."

Junior Hannah Treinen moved into ninth place with a 639-point effort in the 800 meters and finished with 3,908 points. She missed scoring a point for the Wolves by one place.

"She was happy with where she was at considering she hasn't been able to train very hard the last couple of weeks," Nacke said. "It was just good to see her get in there and compete."

The multi-events are the first competed events of the NSIC outdoor track and field championships, which will be held May 10-11 in Sioux Falls. Meyerink scored two points for the NSU men's team during the decathlon, while Schlecht scored a point for the NSU women's team during the heptathlon.
