The Trojans compiled a score of 317 to out-distance Pierre by 18 strokes in the 18-team field. Aberdeen Central finished tied with Huron for fifth place, both with scores of 261. Hallie Getz, the defending State AA champion from Pierre, carded a 71 to claim the individual title.
Amanda Tobin led the Central golfers with her round of 86, tying for 14th overall. Amanda Rook carded a 88. Central coach Kim Zimmerman said the Golden Eagles, like other teams in the field, were eager to get on the course and finally play after a long wait.
"The first time out, you don't know what to expect," Zimmerman said. "A lot of teams felt the same way."
Similar to other teams in the field, Central was led by a good crop of upperclassmen.
"It's a little bit to our benefit that we have some seniors and upperclassmen coming back," Zimmerman said. "They know the routine and the golf course and that might have helped us out today."
Also near the top of a crowded leaderboard were Megan Mingo of Yankton and Parkston's Jordan Bormann, who finished tied for second at 76. Team-wise and individually, the standings played out pretty much Zimmerman expected them to.
"There were no big surprises, nothing out of the ordinary," Zimmerman noted.
The Golden Eagles will be in action again Monday at the Sioux Falls Washington Invitational, being played at Willow Run Golf Course. The meet gets underway at 9 a.m.
