The senior hurdler will compete in the finals of the event today at the meet in Des Moines, Iowa. Hauert will be the only Division II runner in the finals today. He will run against hurdlers from Indiana State, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Nebraska and North Dakota State.
"Luke had a phenomenal day," Northern State coach Kevin Bjerke said. "Luke ran one of the best races all year. To make a final at Drake Relays is great, especially when it is Division I and II competition combined."
Northern State had a pair of women's relay teams compete at the Drake Relays on Friday as well. The Wolves finished 13th in the 800-meter relay and 18th in the 400-meter relay.
"The women ran well in both relays," Bjerke said, "but not great."
The Wolves also had athletes competing at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on Friday. NSU thrower Alexandra Webster won her second straight meet in the javelin throw. Webster won a meet last weekend in Lincoln, Neb.
"She threw very well," Bjerke said. "That is back-to-back meets where she has hit a provisional qualifier. She is consistently throwing well and right on top of the conference. That is really exciting leading into the conference meet knowing that she is ready to place high at conference hopefully."
Another NSU javelin thrower, Devin Olson, had another solid showing in the event on Friday as he placed second. He also finished second at the meet in Lincoln last weekend. It was Olson's second meet this season after he participated in spring football workouts for the Wolves.
"He came out and improved on that mark quite a bit today," Bjerke said. "Very good progression for him with the limited time he had."
Complete results from the Kip Janvrin Open were not available on Friday. The Drake Relays continue today.
