NSU adds five more football players

 The Northern State football program has added five additional players to this fall's team.

 The players are Kyle Sarringar (Pierre), Philip Mathews (Draper), Jacob Iken (Helena, Mont.), Austin Opdahl (Chester) and Kennedy Kosters (Selby).

 Sarringar, 6-foot-1, 185-pound linebacker, was an All-Eastern South Dakota Conference selection. He recorded 28 tackles his senior year and rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Also a member of the two-time Pierre wrestling championship squad.

 Mathews, 5-11, 180-pound defensive back from Jones County High School in Murdo. A four-year starter, he totaled more than 3,000 yards rushing and more than 200 tackles on defense. Mathews was named to the Western Great Plains All-Conference team in each of his last three seasons. Also played basketball.

 Iken, 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman, earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a senior and was named the most improved player on his team. Also participates in track and field.

 Opdahl, 6-1, 165-pound defensive back who passed for 776 yards and rushed for 1,034 yards while tallying 57 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions on defense. He was named to the All-Big East Conference team as both a junior and senior and was a 2012 All-State selection. He will play in the South Dakota All-Star game this summer.

 Kosters, 6-0, 250-pound offensive lineman, was named his team's Most Valuable Lineman and Most Valuable Defense, Herreid-Selby Area went 10-1 and won the Yellowstone Trail Conference title.  He was an all-state selection after recording 188 tackles, 4½ sacks, five fumble recoveries and an interception over his last two seasons. An Aberdeen American News All-Area pick, Kosters was selected to play in the all-star game this summer. Also played basketball and track and field. His father, Jeff Kosters, is a former NSU offensive lineman (1995).

 "We are excited to add this group of quality student-athletes to the Wolves football family," said NSU head football coach Tom Dosch. "They will continue to add depth and competition to our program at several different positions."
