A pair of South Dakota wrestlers will not face each other for a national championship, but they could meet for third place.
Webster graduate and Minnesota's Logan Storley lost to Matthew Brown of Penn State 3-2 in the semifinals of the 174-pound division at the NCAA Division I tournament on Friday. Wagner graduate and Nebraska's Robert Kokesh lost to Chris Perry of Oklahoma State 4-2 in overtime in the other semifinal match of the weight division. If both would have won their semifinals matches, they would have met in the title match.
The two former South Dakota state champions will now compete in the wrestleback rounds this morning. If both of the grapplers win their respective matches today, they wrestle in the third place match of the 174-pound division.
The 6th-seeded Storley defeated No. 3 Mike Evans of Iowa 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Friday. The 4th-seeded Kokesh defeated No. 5 Josh Asper of Maryland by an 11-3 major decision in his quarterfinal match on Friday.
Storley and Kokesh have both already secured All-American honors at the national tournament.
