A pair of West River teams claimed titles at the South Dakota amateur basketball tournament on Sunday.
The Lead-Deadwood Nuggets defeated Brookings-Foothill Construction 95-87 in the Class B championship game. The Rapid City Buffalo Wings-I defeated Rapid City Buffalo Wild Wings-II 114-95 in the Class A title game.
Rob Johnson powered Lead-Deadwood in the Class B championship game with 23 points on his way to Most Valuable Player honors. Mike McCarty added 19 points for the Nuggets in the title game. Justin Brown paced Brookings with 22 points.
Matt Martin tossed in 31 points to lead Buffalo Wild Wings-I to the Class A championship game. The former Northern State graduate assistant was named the Class A Most Valuable player. Blake Tideman added 16 points for Buffalo Wild Wings-I. Gary Parker scored a game-high 33 points for Buffalo Wild Wings-II and Mackenzie Casey added 17 points.
Aberdeen-Cunningham Electric was defeated by Buffalo Wild Wings-I 77-67 in the semifinals on Sunday. Adam Templeton paced Buffalo Wild Wings-I with 20 points, while Martin added 18 points. Adam Herther led Aberdeen with 20 points. Adam Grant and Shane Cunningham had 16 points and 11 points respectively.
Lead-Deadwood defeated Mobridge 98-54 in a late first round game on Saturday. Luke Enos paced Mobridge with 13 points, while Chris Guggolz and Michael Dady added 10 points apiece. Randy Herman led the Nuggets with 22 points.
