The Aberdeen Cougars girls' hockey team came up short against Mitchell Friday at the Odde Ice Center, falling 5-2 to the Marlins.
Aberdeen struck first in the contest, as Hailey Gould scored the first of her two goals to get the hosts on the board first. The lead lasted less than a minute as the Marlins answered with a Kayla Murtha goal. Mitchell's Haley Stahl gave her team the lead for good, scoring with 1:47 left in the period.
Ashley Murtha added to the lead in the second period, and the Cougars answered with Gould's second goal, but could get no closer. Mitchell scored its final two goals in the third period. Aberdeen had a 29-22 advantage in shots, as Cougar goalie Hailey Huff stopped 17 shots.
Aberdeen travels to Brookings today to face the Rangers.
