The Monday night league at the Village Bowl in Aberdeen has seen two perfect games and an 800 series in the last two weeks.
- Cliff Kuckelburg of Aberdeen added the 21st perfect game to his career totals on Jan. 28. He rolled a 300 in the second game of a four-game series in the Merchants Classic League. It was Kuckelburg's third 300 game this season. His three-game series score was 759 and his four-game series mark was 1,036. Kuckelburg, who has the top five four-game series scores this season (1,053, 1,052, 1,042, 1,039, 1,036), had a shot at another 300 game later the same night.
"The first game I had a 257, then I shot 300," he said. "I kind of lost it in the third game and switched balls. I had strikes in the first nine frames again, but blew it in the 10th."
- Veteran bowler Ken Schuh of Aberdeen recorded the first 800 series of his 40-plus year bowling career.
It happened Monday night in the Merchants Classic League. His three-game series went 279-279-245 for an 803. His previous career high series was a 796. "When you get to be my age, you think maybe it's not going to happen," said Schuh. "I was bowling against Cliff (Kuckelburg) and he made me try a little harder."
Schuh needed to finish in dramatic fashion to reach the 800 mark.
"I looked up at the scoreboard in the eighth frame and thought to myself, 'You have to strike out now. You get up there and what ever happens, happens,' " he said.
What happened was he closed with four strikes to reach the coveted 800 mark.
The same night Schuh rolled an 800 series, Dave Lenling of Aberdeen had a perfect game just one lane away. Lenling's 300 game was reported in Tuesday's paper.
- There was another perfect game last week at the Village Bowl, but it wasn't in the Merchants Classic League.
Larry Anderson rolled a 300 game on Friday in the Tip Top League. His 300 score came in the second game and he finished with a 738 series. It was his first career 300 game.
"The ball was walking right into the pocket, and all the pins fell down," said Anderson. "My heart was sure pounding."
Anderson, a member of the Hustlers team, has a 205 average and has bowled for 44 years.
"I waited a long time to get one," he said.
