Mitchell Brockhaus has verbally committed to the Northern State football team.

Brockhaus is a 6-foot-8, 235-pound all-state defensive end from West Central. He racked up 36 tackles -- 13 for loss -- and seven sacks this past season for the Trojans. Brockhaus also batted down four passes. He was a three-year starter, a two-time all-conference selection and a two-time all-stater for West Central. In his three years as a starter, he had 36 tackles for loss, 17 sacks and four blocked punts for the Trojans. He also started at tight end the past two seasons.

"He is built like the guys that play on Sundays with his height and his reach," West Central coach Kent Mueller said. "He has got good feet and really good speed for a big kid."

Brockhaus, who is also an outstanding basketball player, did all the punting and kicking the last three years for the Trojans, said Mueller. Verbal commitments are not binding until prospects sign their national letters of intent on Feb. 6.
