Aberdeen Christian assistant coach Hannah Wickard said Waubay's post play was a role in the victory for the Dragons.
"Their post play was really effective," Wickard said. "We haven't seen a team that played great 'back-to-the-basket'; they were very traditional with good post play."
The Dragons had a balanced scoring attack, led by Kayla Breske, Monica Larson and Jenna Larson with 14 points each. Breske also grabbed seven rebounds.
Wickard said Christian ran its offense well in the first half, had trouble finding the basket.
"Our offense worked well, but we didn't put the ball in the basket," she said. "We were able to work the ball inside and got some our post players involved. They worked really hard for us."
Tabitha Schrenk led the Knights with nine points and Ellie Becker hauled down 10 rebounds.
Waubay will travel to Revillo to face Grant-Deuel on Friday while the Knights are back in action again Thursday against Ipswich at the Civic Arena. Game times are 6:30 p.m. for the girls and 8 p.m. for the boys. Wickard said lessons learned from the Waubay game will hopefully carry over to Thursday, such as playing against a pressure defense and playing better on the offensive end.
"We haven't played against a press for a couple of weeks, so we will be able to do better," Wickard said. "We will take the feeling of what effective offense feels like and be able to do it (Thursday)."
