SIOUX FALLS - Playing their second double overtime contest in as many days, Northern State battled Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference newcomer Sioux Falls to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend of NSIC play.
"It was an exciting game," Northern State coach Steve Kehm said. "I think a lot of opportunities for both teams. No one could finish so I think at the end of the day it was a fair score."
Senior Rachel Goslinga scored NSU's lone goal, her second of the weekend and ninth of the season. The unassisted equalizer came 57 minutes into the contest and tied things up at one goal apiece.
Sioux Falls had taken the lead with about a minute and a half left in the first half on an unassisted Brooke Jurgens goal. NSU tied it up 12 minutes into the second half. Both teams had a couple of cracks at the lead in regulation, but could not convert on either one. NSU also created a pair of shot-on-goal opportunities in the first overtime.
"We had several quality chances," Kehm said, "but couldn't convert."
The tie puts NSU at 3-9-2 overall and 2-7-2 in NSIC play. The Wolves return home next weekend and will play three of their final four games of the season at home. Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State will pay their visits to Jerde Field on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
