Oakes won five individual championships on the way to claiming the team title during the Faulkton Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.
The Tornadoes finished with 235-1/2 points, 112 better than runnerup Potter County.
It was a special day for Tyson Mitzel of Aberdeen Roncalli, which scored 60 points.
Mitzel not only won the 160-pound championship, he established a new school record for career wins at Roncalli. The junior won four matches on the day to push his career total to 141 victories, which eclipsed the old mark held by Keith Gunn.
Roncalli coach Justin Briese said Mitzel will likely extend that record by a huge margin over the next two years.
"If he keeps up the way he's going, he'll put that way out of reach of anybody for a long time," Briese said.
Matt Schlosser finished third at 195 pounds for the Cavaliers.
"Matt kind of had a slow start to the day," Briese noted. "He came back and wrestled well."
Roncalli also received a fourth-place finish from Zach Sumner at 185 pounds.
"Zach came out and wrestled well," Briese said. "He's getting better."
Briese said for the most part it was a typical day for his team.
"With our lower numbers, it's hard for us to get in the top quarter of teams, but we do what we can with what we have," he said.
Briese noted that Isaac Norton and Riley Johnsen both contributed to the team points total by winning matches on the day.
Briese said it was nice to see a team like Oakes, a squad that the Cavaliers seldom compete against.
"They have some good kids," Briese said. "They come out and wrestle hard. They're a quality program."
Roncalli will compete in the Northeast Conference tournament Saturday in Webster, where Mitzel will be looking for his third straight conference title.
