An Olympic shooter from Selby not only won a title this weekend, but posted the second-best score in the history of USA men's 10-meter air pistol.
Brian Beaman won that title at the 2012 Winter Airgun Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. The three-day event featured more than 225 competitors including seven Olympians. Beaman was a 2008 Olympian who finished fourth in Beijing.
Beaman scored a 689.7. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist in 10-meter air pistol, Jongoh Jin of South Korea, finished with a 688.2.
Four-time Olympian Daryl Szarenski of Seale, Ala., is the national record holder with his score of 691.8 on Dec. 3, 2011. Jason Turner of Rochester, N.Y., is now third in the record books with his 688.8.
Beaman won two of the three rounds at the event. South Dakota had two winners as Dempster Christianson of Sioux Falls won the men's air rifle championship.
