MADISON -- Dakota State put a damper on Presentation's men's basketball season opener, handing the Saints a 77-58 setback Tuesday.
The game was the sixth of the season for the Trojans, who collected their fifth win. Presentation coach Jeremy Reigle said the Saints had a good effort for the first game.
"I thought we played really hard," said Reigle. "(Dakota State) has a few games under their belt, and we're still figuring out what to do. We need the same effort but smarter in the future. We got caught in some bad habits at times, and need to learn from this game."
Reigle said the Trojans controlled the game, but the Saints had opportunities the couldn't capitalize on. He felt the team came away with some positives, however.
"Our turnovers (12) were okay, much improved from last year," he said.
Darrell Farr was the only Saint to score in double figures, tossing in game-high 21 points and hauling in 10 rebounds and collecting three steals.
The Saints may have been a little nervous in their first game, but as the season goes on, Reigle is confident that will change.
"We have to get jitters out of the way, but no doubt we will improve going forward," Reigle said.
Four players reached double figures for the hosts, who led the entire game. Luke Lamb tossed in 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds followed by Marcus Smith with 15.
The Saints will be in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Friday and Saturday to take part in the William Penn Classic. Presentation will face Central Christian of Missouri at 5 p.m. Friday.
