Wings open season with win

Two early goals by Erik Baskin stood the test, while goalie Chad Catt made 22 saves and allowed one goal as the Aberdeen Wings opened the 2013-14 season with a 2-1 win over Janesville at the North American Hockey League in Blaine, Minn. on Wednesday.

 Baskin scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of play, part of 14 Wings shots in the first period. Aberdeen outshot the Jets by a 34-23 margin.

 Baskin scored the first goal with 13:21 left in the first period, on assists by Ryan Cook and Tanner Okeson. His second goal came with 9:59 left in the period. Jonathan Grebosky and Dillon Eichstadt were credited with assists on that tally. Baskin had five total shots on goal in the game.

 Janesville did not score until 9:45 left in the game, on a goal by Nick Petrella.

 Aberdeen will face Rio Grande Valley (Texas) at 10 this morning in their second game of the four-day Showcase tournament.
