The second sheet of ice and expansion at the Mitchell Activities Center is expected to be done by the middle of November.

The new sheet of ice is estimated to cost $2.8 million and is expected to allow Mitchell to host larger and more hockey tournaments. Late snowstorms in April delayed the project.

The Mitchell Marlins boys' varsity squad is shooting to practice for the first time on the main rink Oct. 1, according varsity head coach John Lord. "We will take it as soon as we can get it," Lord told the Mitchell Daily Republic. "We understand with the new facility being built, there is a lot going on. It is not in our hands, but we won't have our first games until mid-November, so we will have plenty of time to get on the ice."
