Column: Historic weekend for Aberdeen football teams

For the first time, all four Aberdeen football teams won games on the same weekend.

All four games were close. And, this is only the third season for Presentation College.

On Saturday, the Saints nipped Luther College of Decorah, Iowa, 23-22 and Northern State edged Wayne, Neb., State 29-27 in three OTs. On Friday in the 11th annual Hub City Bowl, Aberdeen Roncalli clipped Groton 19-0 and Aberdeen Central got past Brookings 28-12.

Win or lose, Aberdeen is fortunate to have a great group of head football coaches. These guys pour their hearts into making their players better on and off the field. I know all four would be quick to credit their staffs, but they and their teams really created a football buzz in Aberdeen over the weekend:

Terry Dosch: 29th season at Aberdeen Roncalli, 185-87 at Roncalli.

Tom Dosch: Fourth season at NSU, 14-20.

Andy Carr: Third season at PC, 6-15.

Mike Flakus: 16th season at Aberdeen Central, 80-88.

Terry and Tom are not related, by the way.

Weekend prep notes

Redfield-Doland scored 17 points in the final three minutes to rally for a 41-26 win over Sisseton. Trailing 26-24, RD took the lead on a game-winning 24-yard field goal by Collin Klebsh with 2:54 remaining. The Pheasants then added TD runs of 66 yards (Landon Rohlfs) and 99 yards (Jake Baloun). Ephram Albrecht had three interceptions for RD and Jordan Cornelius had two for Sisseton.

Drew Planteen of Langford Area had 199 yards rushing, two TDs and eight tackles in his team's 16-0 win over Northwestern.

Chase Bixler had a hand in 36 of Hitchcock-Tulare's 60 points in its win over Ipswich/Edmunds Central.

Faulkton Area defeated Sunshine Bible, and the two teams combined to score five different ways in the 14 total scoring plays: six runs, three passes, a kickoff return, two returned fumble recoveries and two safeties.

Gaven Kolden of Waverly-South Shore ran for 334 yards in his team's win over Webster.

Lance Eide scored 36 of Deuel's 64 points in its win over Wilmot.

Bryce Meehl of Oakes (2-0) kicked four PATs and threw three TDs in his team's win over Ellendale-Edgeley/Kulm.

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan ended Canistota's 37-game winning streak. Wade Miller scored five TDs in BEE's 38-14 win.

Jake Comeaux of Brandon Valley threw five TDs in his team's 46-13 road victory over Huron. Devan West added a 52-yard field goal for the Lynx.

Jacob Cersosimo recovered a Mitch Morgan blocked punt in the end zone with 30 seconds remaining to lead Mitchell to a 21-14 win over visiting Harrisburg.

The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks beat the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans 28-22 in overtime. For you not counting at home, that was a 78-letter matchup. Next up for the WWSSC Blackhawks on Sept. 20 will be the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders, an 80-letter matchup.

The Madison Bulldogs made a statement with its 39-12 win against top-ranked Dell Rapids.
