REDFIELD - The hosts swept the team titles at the Redfield-Doland Invitational cross country meet Thursday.

In a tight boys' race, the Pheasants needed the help of their fifth runner to claim the team win. Both Redfield-Doland and Miller finished 22 points, but the 14th place of Caleb McNeil was the difference. The fifth Miller runner finished in 25th place, giving the Pheasants the edge. Jase Kraft of Wessington Springs and Nicolette Schmidt of Redfield-Doland captured individual wins on the day.

Aberdeen Christian and Roncalli runners fared well on the day, too, as Christian was third in the boys' division with 23 points. The Knights' top runner was Isaac Ayers, who logged a sixth-place finish. Christian coach Matt Scott was pleased with the results but said there is still more work to do.

"We could work on the gap from one to six," Scott said. "All in all, the one to three gap is tight, that is one of our strengths. We focused more on racing as a team today."

Roncalli's top finisher in the boys' race was Alex Bellefeuille in 18th place with Will Geyer not far behind in 20th. On the girls' side, Isabel Litzen was ninth to lead the Cavaliers.

"We had a better day than last week," said Roncalli coach Mark Stone. "We had a bunch of younger kids that had a great day today. I had anticipated a lot of tired legs this week, but it's been a week of good progress and we had a good day."

Both Christian and Roncalli take to the course Monday at the Webster Invitational at 4 p.m.
