There is no place quite like it in Northeast South Dakota.

From concerts and games, to the annual Shrine Circus, no other facility has brought together people from the surrounding area for generation after generation like the Aberdeen Civic Arena.

Who doesn't have a Civic Arena story to tell?

Now, you will get a chance to share yours.

This fall, the American News will be putting together a special project to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Arena. Stories will range in scope from historic basketball games to political stumping.

The list of people who have walked through the Arena doors reads like a who's who of Americana.

From current President Barack Obama to long-time radio personality Paul Harvey, the names and faces of those who have visited the Arena are vast and varied.

While the project will be primarily written by American News staffers, we are asking for your help as well. Please submit your most memorable moment inside the Civic Arena, whether it was watching the world famous Harlem Globetrotters or listening to Johnny Cash or Three Dog Night.

Our staff will then select what we feel are the top responses and publish them in the project. All entries will appear online so please keep that in mind when submitting your memories.

Please send your Civic Arena recollections to my email address: dvilhauer@aberdeennews.com.

The project will also feature another interactive component giving readers a chance to vote on the top all-time event to take place at the legendary facility.

The Arena opened its doors in November 1938 and remains a popular destination for everything from Winterfest to district basketball tournaments. The building has stood the test of time and this project will now offer an opportunity to relive and recapture some of the magical moments that are connected to the facility.

Please share your thoughts with us during the next month about an Aberdeen landmark that has impacted young and old alike from miles around for the past three-quarters of a century.
