City commissioners in Pierre will be considering a proposal in the coming weeks to build an indoor sports facility and events center.
A Public Facilities Task Force has endorsed the idea of a multimillion-dollar facility that could handle indoor sports as well as shows and meetings. The task force has representatives of city and county government, and the business, health and education sectors.
Building a new facility has been talked about since the run-down City Auditorium closed more than two years ago. A consultant earlier this year recommended a 40,000-square-foot multipurpose building.
A task force subcommittee is recommending the city hire Icon Architectural Group, which has developed similar facilities in North Dakota and Nebraska.
