Four Northern State student-athletes were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for academic achievement as well as both the men's and women's track and field squads.
Three athletes from the women's team were honored for their academic achievements. Yvonne Freese, a music education major (3.32 GPA), Jill Schaefer, an accounting major (3.72 GPA), and Alexandra Webster, a sports marketing student (3.65 GPA), were recognized. Luke Hauert received accolades from the men's team. Hauert posted a 3.75 GPA in accounting last academic year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.
To earn a team award, the squad must carry a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The women's team at NSU posted a 3.35 GPA and was one of 10 NSIC squads to receive the award, which was the third-most for a conference in the country. The men's squad had a cumulative GPA of 3.03 as a team and was one of six NSIC teams to be honored, which was the most in the country amongst conferences.
