Lauryn Williams is becoming the latest U.S. track and field Olympian to try her hand at bobsledding.
Williams will compete Thursday at the U.S. bobsled push championships in Calgary, Alberta, the first step in the process that could see her named to the national team this fall. The results also play a role in selection for the team that will represent the U.S. at the Sochi Olympics in February.
Williams finished seventh in a combine for women's team hopefuls on Tuesday, competing in short sprints, a broad jump, shot put toss and weightlifting.
An NCAA champion in the 100 meters for Miami in 2004, Williams competed for the U.S. in track at the Olympics in 2004, 2008 and 2012. She announced her track retirement in June.
