An area fishing team won $2,600 for first place in the recent South Dakota Walleye Classic and Festival at Akaska.
John and Ken Reed of Columbia and Andrew Klein of Bath caught 39.88 pounds of walleye to finish first.
The team of Cody Nipp of Aberdeen and Wyatt Wilson and Larry Huettl of Westport finished second with 32.22 pounds to earn $1,800, plus $500 for catching the largest (8.61 pounds) walleye. The team of Ken Vogel (Onaka), Dustin Vogel (Redfield) and Kurt Vogel (Aberdeen) won $500 for the best comeback award,when they caught 3.55 pounds the first day and 15.79 the second.
Third (29.76 pounds, $1,400) went to Blake Anderson (Groton), Kevin Pitzl (Britton) and Chris Kassube (Bath) followed by .
Fourth (27.32, $1,000), Mike Kruse (Mapleton, Iowa), Rick Barnett (Schlessig, Iowa) and Gene Allen Sandmeir (Akaska).
Fifth (26.59, $700), Bob Severtson (Akaska), Dennis Coenen (Hortonville, Wis.) and Bill Severtson (Lakeville, Minn.).
Sixth (26.36, $500), Cory Sauerwein (Aberdeen) and Martin Looyenga (Mobridge).
