Collin Pryor wrapped up his college basketball career this past March.

He will begin his professional basketball career this September.

The former Northern State men's basketball player recently signed a one-year contract with FSu Selfoss in Iceland. FSu Selfoss competes in the Division I level of the Icelandic Basketball Federation. FSu stands for Fjolbrautaskoli Sudurlands University, the largest educational institution in Iceland.

"It is an unbelievable opportunity," Pryor said about playing professional basketball. "It is a surreal type of feeling. As excited as I am and thrilled about the opportunity, it still maybe hasn't sunk in yet."

Pryor, 23, will leave for Iceland in early September. The regular season will start in mid-October and it will last until April. FSu serves as both a development academy with young players that attend the school, and a professional basketball team. Former NSU standout Matt Hammer had a stint with the team after he finished playing for the Wolves.

"I'm definitely excited to see where this can go," Pryor said. "I think at this point I definitely have to focus on this first year - the rookie year."

If Pryor has a solid season, it could lead to other opportunities as far as playing for other teams in other countries.

"Your first year is kind of like a proving year," the 6-foot-6 Pryor said. "This can definitely be a good lucrative business situation for a player, but it can also be a great experience as far as traveling and seeing other areas of the world."

Shortly after the Wolves finished their season this past March, Pryor began the process of trying to sign with a team overseas. He made a college highlight video, made a collegiate resume with a list of accomplishments and got in contact with several agents. He also talked with Hammer about the process and former Minnesota State, Mankato player Jefferson Mason, who recently signed with the AB Contern basketball team of the Luxembourg-Total League.

"It is definitely a waiting game," Pryor said about the process. "It tests your patience a little bit."

Pryor talked with agents from Germany and Switzerland before ultimately picking FSu Selfoss. Pryor signed his contract with the team last Wednesday.

"It is definitely a good feeling knowing that I'm not hanging it up quite yet," said Pryor, who was an all-conference performer for the Wolves and scored over 1,000 career points.

Pryor admits it will be a culture shock at first living in another country, but added he is looking forward competing and practicing again - and of course experiencing another part of the world.

"It is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity," Pryor said. "Something that I have worked hard for and dreamt about since I could remember."
