Aberdeen varsity soccer players Matt Deboer and Miah Wills played on South Dakota's first-ever U.S. Club Soccer national championship team.

Their South Dakota United FC Barcelona boys' team won the Under 17 boys' division of the National Cup XII in Aurora, Colo., on Sunday. It was a history making team as the state had never had a team even compete in such a regional (which the South Dakota team won to advance to nationals) let alone a national tourney.

South Dakota United FC Barcelona defeated WFC United '95 (N.J.) 2-0 in the national championship. The team, which featured players from around the state as well as two players from North Dakota and one from Wyoming, was coached by Chris Derry of Pierre.
