Aberdeen Roncalli's tennis team rebounded from a loss to Rapid City Stevens to earn a split with a win over Rapid City Central Friday at the NSU Courts.
The Cavaliers lost 8-1 to Stevens before recording a 9-0 win over the Cobblers. Against Stevens, Erica Carrels had the lone victory, defeating her opponent 10-5. Roncalli coach Megan Barnett said the Cavaliers fought hard against a tough Raiders team.
"Those girls can really hit the ball hard, and our girls did pretty well," Barnett said. "We were able to compete with them in some matches, but they are a really good team and really athletic."
Against Rapid City Central, Kaylyn Deiter avenged an earlier loss at second-flight singles, defeating Tianna Duda 10-6. Deiter fell 10-7 in a dual at Pierre a few weeks ago.
"At Pierre, Deiter lost a close match and this time she won," said Barnett. "She played really well. It helped that she knew what to expect."
Roncalli's dual record is now 13-3. The Cavaliers will take part in the Elliott Extravaganza today which starts at 9 a.m.
