Despite two regular season losses to Britton-Hecla, Groton rose up to defeat Britton-Hecla 13-25, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11 on the Braves home court on Tuesday in the semifinal round of District 1A in high school volleyball.
Groton dropped the first set, but came back to win the second, third and fifth sets. The Groton win was powered by the hitting trio of Erica Schuster and Kylie Hawkins, with 16 kills each and Camille Sippel with 14. Groton finished the match with 15 more kills than Britton-Hecla. Savanna Larson and Courtney Kurtz combined for 30 digs to pace Groton's defense. Kurtz also handed out 41 set assists.
Britton-Hecla leaders included Emily Bremmon with 17 kills, Madeline Carlson with seven ace serves, Aria Meyer with 36 set assists and Morgan Storley with 15 digs.
Britton-Hecla's season ended with an 18-8 record. Groton (9-14) will play Aberdeen Roncalli (21-5) at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Roncalli Gym in the district championship match.
