Former Sioux Falls Skyforce basketball coach Dave Joerger has been named the head coach of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies.
Joerger replaces head coach Lionel Hollins, who led the Grizzlies to a franchise record 56 regular season wins and the playoffs. Joerger played basketball at Minnesota State Moorhead and began his coaching career with the Dakota Wizards from 1997-2004. He coached the Skyforce from 2004-06. His 232-117 record as a head coach includes two Continental Basketball Association coach of the year awards.
Joerger has spent the last six seasons as a Grizzlies assistant coach. He signed a four-year contract worth $2 million per season, according to USA Today Sports. He is married to Aberdeen native Kara (Fordham) Joerger.
