On a night where runs were hard to come by, Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar edged Groton 4-1 in a Northern Plains League amateur baseball game at Fossum Field Monday night.
The host team scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning without getting the ball out of the infield, and a pair of pitchers made the lead hold up.
Groton scored first on a sacrifice fly by Tyson Paulson in the top of the second.
Circus tied the game in the bottom half of the frame on a passed ball before Curtis Metz drove in a run on an infield hit.
The Aberdeen squad then added insurance runs in the third on a Tyler Newman single and in the seventh on a Diego Bautista single.
Groton threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, before flying out to end the game.
Bautista pitched six strong innings before Dustin Pikrel came on in relief.
Newman finished with two hits for Circus, while Zach Harry and Manny Rivera each had two hits for Groton.
Circus Sports Bar, 3-2 on the season, hosts Mobridge in another nine-inning contest at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fossum Field.
