The Barnett Center is continuing its trend of out with the old and in with the new.

A new floor is currently in the process of being completed at Wachs Arena on the Northern State campus. The work on the new floor on Don Meyer Court began a couple of weeks ago and should be completed by next week, said NSU athletic director Josh Moon.

"In terms of the maintenance of the floor, this is a normal cycle you go through in terms of sanding down and resurfacing it and repainting it," Moon said. "It hasn't been done in a while. It is normally a recommended practice to do that. This is more of a maintenance thing, but when we are doing the maintenance, we had an opportunity to repaint it to make it look more cutting edge and more up with today's standards."

Other recent upgrades to the NSU athletic facility include a new weight room, new basketball locker rooms, new basketball coaches offices and a new wrestling room. The college also put in new basketball hoops and an inflatable tunnel for the athletes to run out of prior to home games. They also made banners for some senior student-athletes that were displayed in Wachs Arena this past season.

"Some of the things that we added this year with the tunnel and senior banners and the hoops and different things is to really make it a special environment for students," Moon said. "This floor will be another good step for us."

The floor includes a new Wolf head logo in the center of the court, which is something that was not on the old floor. The volleyball lines will be white instead of black and the inside of the three-point arc will be a different shade of color than the rest of the court.

"We did the two tone inside the three-point arc to just make it really pop and make things really stand out there," Moon said.

Moon added that all the graphics, the Wachs Arena wording, the Don Meyer Court wording and the new Wolf head will all face toward the Wolf Club section. The new floor design is similar to Division I Purdue, said Moon.

"We looked at a bunch of different schools in terms of a template to go from and we felt that what we did here is going to be really sharp," Moon said.
