  •  Amherst native, Academic All-American and Dakota State senior football player John Niesen was one of 703 college players across the nation named this week to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
  •  It is a busy sports weekend in Sioux Falls with more than 3,000 high school and college athletes from 296 schools competing in the 88th Howard Wood Dakota Relays and about 600 athletes from 31 teams at the state youth soccer tourney.
  •  Add to Sioux Falls' sports weekend: More than 30 teams and 1,000 athletes were at the Sioux Falls O'Gorman track meet Friday, and today is the Augustana spring football game and dedication ceremonies of the Vikings' renovated baseball field.
  •  Watertown native and North Dakota State track coach Ryun Godrey is the honorary referee for this year's Howard Wood relays. He and his father, Vic, are the first father-son team to serve as Wood Relays honorary referees. Vic, a former Aberdeen Central and Northern State track standout, was honored in 2007.
