RAPID CITY -- The Rapid City Stevens boys' tennis team rolled to a win on Saturday in the Rapid City Invitational.

The two-day tournament wrapped up on Saturday with singles play. Stevens, which led at the end of the doubles competition on Friday, maintained that lead and finished with 199 points. Sioux Falls O'Gorman was second with 157 points. Aberdeen Roncalli placed sixth with 50 points.

The Cavaliers were pleased to get some court action outdoors after a cold and snowy spring.

"It was really nice to be outside, just to get the chance to compete," said Roncalli boys' tennis coach Jessie Daw. "Our players did a really good job. They are getting better every match. We are developing our points better than we were (Friday) in our dual match. It was just good to be playing."

The Cavaliers' top finisher in singles play was Keaton Deiter with a third-place finish at flight five. He started out with a tight first-round win over a Rapid City Central player by scores of 7-5, 4-6, 13-11. He was defeated in the semifinal and received a default in the third-place match.

"Keaton was our only varsity player who won in the first round. Everybody else was in the back draw," said Daw.

The rest of the Roncalli squad finished with one fifth-place, three sixth-places and an eighth.

Jacob Gellhaus lost his first-round match to a player from Gillette, Wyo., in flight three singles. Gellhaus beat a Spearfish player 10-1 to advance to the fifth-place match, where he recorded a 10-8 win over a St. Thomas More player.

Adam Goetz, Kyle Martin and Alex Bellefeuille finished sixth in flights one, two and four respectively. Parker Monson was eighth in the sixth flight.

The Aberdeen Roncalli boys' tennis team returns to dual action on Tuesday at Watertown.

"Watertown has a pretty strong team this year," said Daw. "I haven't seen them yet, but I've heard they have the potential to make a run at the state title. I think we are just going to be ready to go out and improve on the good play we had this weekend."

Final Team Points: Rapid City Stevens 199, Sioux Falls O'Gorman 157, Pierre 72, Rapid City Central 63-1/2, St. Thomas More 56, Aberdeen Roncalli 50, Gillette, Wyo., 42-1/2, Spearfish 0.
